Purpose
The Events Committee brings the energy, fun, and community spirit of pickleball to life! This team plans and executes all social, competitive, and community events—from open play mixers and DUPR sessions to tournaments, charity fundraisers, and member socials.
Why It Matters
Events are the heartbeat of pickleball culture. They create excitement, connect players of all ages and skill levels, and showcase TGAPA’s mission to grow the game in Thomasville and Thomas County. Every successful event boosts member satisfaction, strengthens community visibility, and helps raise funds to improve our courts and programs.
Roles on This Committee

Event Planners & Organizers – coordinate logistics, schedules, and communication.

SPECIAL ROLE: League & Tournament Director
Dawn Smith began playing pickleball in 2021 after her brother’s friend group needed a fourth player and encouraged her to join them. What started as a favor quickly turned into a love for the game. Since then, Dawn has spent countless hours on the courts, not only playing regularly but also drilling and practicing to improve her skills. Her dedication and consistency have made her a familiar presence in the Thomasville pickleball community.
What Dawn enjoys most about pickleball is the people she has met along the way. The friendships formed on the courts and the shared enjoyment of the game are what keep her coming back. Pickleball has given her a strong sense of connection and belonging within the local community.
Dawn believes that having more courts would make pickleball in Thomasville even better as the sport continues to grow. Looking ahead, she hopes to see pickleball expand through well-run leagues and tournaments that give players more opportunities to compete and connect. In her role as Director of Tournaments and Leagues, she brings energy, organization, and firsthand experience to everything she helps coordinate.
